Tonya is 35 years old and she for a long time lived in a mini-dormitory - the supported living facility for people with disabilities.
for the duration of the quarantine, the dormitory, which formally is the department of inpatient care of a rehabilitation institution - Kyiv mixed rehabilitation complex for persons with disabilities due to intellectual disorders, was closed and its residents were sent home.
In the result of that, Tonya's usual way of life and social circle were changed, and without the rehabilitation measures, the girl became depressed and even refused to eat. Tonya's family requested the family doctor, a psychiatrist, called an ambulance, but they refused to even examine the girl, so, in fact, she was denied the right to medical care.
Only when the All Ukrainian "Coalition" in cooperation with the Government Commissioner for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities - Tetyana Barantsova, intervened in the problem and the story was covered in the mass media, the situation was resolved: for Tonya were organized an endocrinologist examination and sessions with psychologists.
Thanks to numerous activities of the All Ukrainian NGO «Coalition for protection of the rights of Persons with Intellectual Disabilites" within the project «Individual assistance to guardians, trustees, legal representatives in defending the violated rights of incapable and unable to work Ukrainians",which was implemented thanks to the mini-grant from the EU project «Increasing the capacity of CSOs of social sphere of Ukraine». which implementing by the CO «Network of 100 percent life Rivne» with the financial support of the European Union, was managed to obtain at the national level the permission for rehabilitation institutions to provide services to adults with disabilities during a quarantine.
